I’m glad we met.

Saturday, 9 AM: Breakfast on the deck

10:30 AM: Playtime. 3 horses, 1 cat

11 AM: Aboard Rip, the 5 year old Arabian. (There are 3 situations, sometimes 4, in my life when I feel completely in the moment, and riding horses is one of them).

12:30 PM: George, the barn cat, suns himself on top of the mesh vegetable cage. He yawns at the horses below as they shake excess water from their coats, winter thick even though it’s nearly 80 in southern California.

1 PM: Ham sandwich.

2 PM: On the road to Los Angeles. (Chillin with some Skynyrd and some old Hank. And Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Kid Rock, Dierks Bentley.)

4:30 PM: Hello, Los Angeles traffic. Fine, I forgive you on Golden Globe weekend.

5:00: Greeted by Katie’s Tuxedo cat, Izzy.

5:30: Madewell denim heaven. And Zara, too.

8 PM: Panang. Curry.

9:30 PM Framboise Lambic.

11 PM: The Edison better be worth this wait.

11:30: Ok, it is. Especially the Moscow Mule.

Sunday

2:30 AM: Post night story time on Katie’s couch reminds me so much of college.

10:30: Izzy snuggles and a stack of magazines.

11:00: Sarah (finally) joins us for brunch at Amandine.

12:30 3 girls take 3 beach cruisers 5 miles to the Venice boardwalk.

2:00: Sarah is part of a 10 person hurdle cleared by one talented tumbler with a message: “There is one race; the human race.”

3:30: a human in a black sheet and pretty good timing scares the living shit out of me.

4:00 one block from the boardwalk and we’re back where houses and plants outnumber people.

4:30 Bike back at sunset.

5:30: We meet the good Samaritan that found Maggie’s wallet, cash and ID all intact.

6:00: Celebratory sushi.

8:00: Southbound.

10:00. Home.

10:15: Unpack new clothes. Time for a wardrobe purge. And a thought: California, I’m glad we met.
